Viola Ortiz Lopez, 80, of Greeley passed away on Friday, May 8, 2020 after suffering a fall at home. She was born December 5, 1939 in the Spanish Colony of Greeley to Manuel and Florence (Martinez) Ortiz where she grew up.
Viola graduated from Greeley High School in 1958 and married Samuel Lopez on June 30, 1958 in Greeley. She worked for Monfort Portions for 24 years and most recently at NCMC in food preparation for the past 10 years. She loved the hospital staff and enjoyed her time in the kitchen.
Reading the Bible was important to Viola and she enjoyed walking, flower gardening and yarn work. She loved to watch the Colorado Rockies and Notre Dame football as well as spending time with her family and friends at BBQ’s.
She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Thankful to have shared her life are her husband, Samuel, three sons; Bartholomew (DeAnna), Samuel Jr. (Esther) and Gregory (Lorrie), six grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, three sisters; Betty Hubbard, Carol Ortiz and Ernestine Daniels as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Leroy, Manuel, Rudy and Bennie Ortiz and her sister, Josie Crespin.
Visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2020, observing face masks and social distancing at Adamson with a private family graveside service at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A public Life Celebration will be held at a later date.
