Obituary

Patricia Lea Barry of Des Moines, IA, passed away on Saturday January 4, 2020, at age 77. She was born in Iowa on June 21, 1942, to Richard James Jose (“Dick”) and Mary Elizabeth (Paschall) Jose. She graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1960.

Later that year, Patricia moved to Chicago, IL. She was united in marriage to Min Sun Cho (“Joe”) in 1965. Patricia and Joe had two children, Michael Richard Cho and David James Cho. Patricia managed apartment buildings in Chicago.

In 1976, Patricia was united in marriage to Fentress Scammon Barry (“Fen”). Patricia and Fen had one child, James Fentress Barry. Although she held a variety of retail positions in suburban Chicago, Patricia’s real passion was being a loving mother to her three sons.

Patricia’s life was forever changed in 2003 when she was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. Always a fighter, she beat cancer and went on to donate significantly to fund cancer research. In addition, Patricia made time to talk to others battling cancer where she would encourage them to keep fighting and to “Livestrong”.

Patricia loved to travel. Notable trips include an Alaskan cruise with Fen, an all-girls trip to Italy, and a family vacation to Mexico for Christmas.

Patricia’s love of family continued with her grandchildren. She loved them deeply taking a keen interest in their interests and activities. In her later years, time spent with grandchildren was everything to her.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mary, and her husband, Fen. Patricia is survived by her son, Michael, daughter-in-law Cheryl Cho; her son, David, and daughter-in-law Karen Cho; and her son James and his partner Lea Yancey; her grandchildren Trevor Cho, Ryan Cho, Abby Cho, and Brianna Cho; and her many cousins.

A private celebration of life event will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent in memory of Patricia Barry to the American Cancer Society, In Care of Adamson Life Celebration Home 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634. Friends may leave condolence messages for the family at adamsoncares.com.

I only knew Patrica for about a year but it’s a year I’ll never forget. We found so many things we shared in common, Patricia’s Mothers name was Mary (my name) my mother’s name was Patrica with a three letter middle name. Patrica s father was Richard James and my father was James Richard, both went by the name of Dick. Our birthday s were 2 days apart, and we were both born in states that began with I her Iowa, and me Indiana, we both had a first born grandson born in 1995 by the name of Trevor,Patricia owned a 1956 Ford, my first car was a 1956 Ford. she introduced me to the famous card game hand and foot, she even put an extra body part to the game to expand the playing time, and yes we enjoyed wine while playing. When telling something and she would forget the right word or name she would look at me to fill it in for her. What a fun and wonderful woman she was. My world will never be the same. I will always miss her. Good bye my friend.
