Beatrice V. Griego left us peacefully on November 1, 2019. She was born in Ocatae, New Mexico to David and Esther Guara on April 1, 1944.
She grew up and graduated from high school in Springer, New Mexico in 1961. Shortly after high school she
was married and had her first-born daughter ShizAnn Griego- Romero in 1962. Her second child Bruce Griego was born
1964. In 1967 she divorced and became a single mother. During this time, she worked as a waitress while attending night
school at Aims community college. Betty graduated with and associate degree in 1970 and continued to University of
Northern Colorado where she got her bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1974. In 1975 she began teaching at
Billie Martinez Elementary School in Greeley Co until her retirement in 2000. She loved teaching and cared for all her
students and coworkers.
Betty met the love of her life Fermin Gonzales in 1969 they were common law married until his passing. Together they
raised Raymundo Berlanga adopted son, Betty Loboto and Angelic Gonzales-Louis. Bea opened her home to many and
loved unconditionally. She considered Fermins children her own and loved them equally. Betty was a surrogate mother to
many through the years and was passionate about her love for her grandchildren.
Beatrice was an avid reader, loved to play bingo and watch football and baseball. She liked watching cooking shows and
loved to be feisty. She was known for speaking her mind and always having a ready comment. Nothing kept her from her
chalupa and her sweets!
Beatrice is survived by her children, ShizAnn & Johnny Romero of Windsor CO, BettyJean and Eddie Lobato, Angelic
& Nathan Louis all of Greeley CO, Raymundo & Tina Berlanga of Houston Texas, As well as several grandchildren and stepchildren. Siblings,Mary and Ralph Pachecco, Cimmarron New Mexico, Arthur Guara of Trinidad CO, Gilbert Guara
and Pat Vigil of Tridindad CO, Ms.Emma Brown Greeley CO.
Preceded in death by her son, Bruce Griego; husband, Fermin Gonzales; her parents, David and Ester Guara; brother, Sammy Guara; aunt, Beatrice Blea.
