Allen Raymond Fischer passed away on October 12, at home, with his loved ones near. He is deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. He was fond of golf, whistling, fixing things around the house, old films, the Green Bay Packers, and his wife and children, who felt loved and ever protected by him.
He is predeceased by his mother Erna Anna, father Otto, and brother Heinz. He is survived by his wife, Lois, and children, Steve, Noel, Brian, Dan, Holly and Heather, 20 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren, as well as his older brother Gerhardt.
Allen was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the third boy, to his parents. He described growing up with many friends who walked to the swimming pool and played together for hours out on the streets and local parks.
He attended college in Milwaukee, and then transferred to River Forest Teacher's College in Illinois, where he met Lois Hasz. They dated, and when she went to Arizona for her student teaching, he valiantly drove her home to Illinois with her parents in the car.
They were married in 1961, and he taught elementary school in Aurora, Illinois. Steve and Noel were born there and remember visiting their grandma Erna Anna close by.
Allen moved his family to Brighton, Colorado, when he accepted a position at South Elementary School. Brian, Dan, and then twins, Heather and Holly, were born. Allen built an incredible A-frame cabin that his children delighted in for many years, whether it was sledding down the winding road, walking to the lake to fish, or wandering the wilderness behind the cabin for hours. Next, he built the house on Pless Drive that would be home for many years, which would include play houses, a tree house, a boardwalk perfect for riding bikes, a swimming pool, and a basketball hoop for his kids.
He moved to Greeley after he retired, and enjoyed being a part of several Bible studies, volunteering to tutor students, and spending time with his children and grandchildren on camping adventures, enjoying large family gatherings, and teaching his grandchildren about old films. He enjoyed golfing with his sons, dinner with his daughters, and slideshows with all. His absence is sorely felt as he helped nurture such a large, loving family.
Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church 3000 35th Avenue, Greeley.
