LouWalda (Lou) Jane Celis-Ghazzawi, 70, of Windsor, passed away on June 5, 2019 in Windsor, Colorado. She was born to Waldo and Lugarda (Garduno) Garcia on February 28, 1949 in Anaconda, Montana but was raised in and spent most of her school years in New Mexico.
In Windsor, Lou worked for Kodak for 35 years making many friends before retiring. Described as a “Spitfire” and “Fireball”, she wasn’t one to backdown. She faced many challenges and overcame almost all. It was with this energy and enthusiasm that enjoyed her volunteer work.

She found great joy in her volunteering positions. She took great pride in helping the teachers and she loved the many students at Windsor Charter Academy where she volunteered for over eleven years. In 2011, WCA staff and students presented her with the World Class Volunteer award for the most hours volunteered in one school year. She was lovingly called Grandma-Lou by the all the students and they particularly enjoyed it when she brought in Sopapilla’s and honey, a Mexican pastry.
Later she worked as a volunteer at the Windsor Healthcare Center. The residents especially enjoyed receiving the small token gifts that Lou would bring, Lou loved the smiles she was met with when she brought her gifts.
Above all Lou loved her grandchildren. This love is what drove Lou to Windsor Charter Academy, it was where two of her grandchildren attended school. The time she spent with her grandchildren, nurtured a life-long loving relationship that she enjoyed to the very last hours of her life.

Lou is survived by her children, Mae (Joe) Mendoza and Eddie (Colleen) Ortiz; grandchildren, Alejandro and Enrique Mendoza, Renee, Joleen and Eddie Ortiz Jr.; siblings, Agnes Roybal, Fred Garcia, Loretta Montoya, Larry (Rae) Garduno and Johnny Garduno and many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution made out to Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church - Mary’s Cradle Program. Mary’s Cradle helps struggling families by providing early family essentials. Send your memorial contribution to 1250 7th Street, Windsor, Colorado 80550.

Lou will be dearly missed by all that knew her.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church at 1250 7th Street in Windsor, Colorado. A life celebration will follow Mass service in the church hall.

Lou was a dear friend to me, and a wise grandma figure and mentor to my kids. She lived with vigor, passion, love and enthusiasm in everything that she did! She tried and tried to teach me how to make her salsa. Alden tasted the last batch I made and said “Mom, this is good but it’s not Grandma Lou’s, I think you just have to be Grandma Lou”. I will miss our talks and all if the big and little world problems we tackled in our conversations. “Godspeed you little spitfire”!

We are so very sorry for your loss. Please find comfort in God's sure promise of a resurrection as set forth in the Bible (Acts 24:15, John 5:28, 29). Those who are raised to life on a restored paradise earth will have the prospect of never again being subjected to misery, sickness, and death (Revelation 21:4).
