Karel Louise Cunefare Lambird was born on November 16, 1931 in Toledo, Cumberland County, Illinois to Arthur Orville and Eugenia Gilbert (Reisner) Cunefare.
She was the only one of 14 children to be born in a hospital due to a Scarlet Fever quarantine.
She married Howard Keith Lambird on December 10, 1949. She graduated from Newton High School and Illinois Central Community College. She was a Registered Nurse for over 20 years, working in dialysis, hospital medical floor and Doctor's office.
The love of her career was the neonatal intensive care nursery. She was an International board certified Lactation Consultant. She and her husband Keith were two of the original members in the formation of the First Bradford, Illinois Rescue Squad.
She was one of six recipients of the Florence Nightingale Award representing 54,000 Nurses in Colorado. She also received several awards for community service.
Karel volunteered at the Mother's Milk Bank and the UCCC, was docent at Centennial Village, taught Sunday school and served as Den mother for Cub Scouts.
Hobbies were reading, sewing, canoeing, white water river rafting and loved planning and organizing events. She enjoyed traveling, and her favorite trips were to Australia and Hawaii.
She was a member of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Order of the Amaranth, Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames XVII Century, and the First United Methodist Church.
Her family meant everything to her.
Karel is survived by four children, Alice (Robert) Chapman of Greeley, Darrell (Vicky) Lambird, Bradford, Illinois, Paul Lambird, Colorado Springs and Laura Lambird, Greeley; grandchildren, Erica (Tobin) Spurlin, Donald (Megan) Chapman, Kristin (Jason) Davis and David (Elise) Lambird; great grandchildren, Sarah, Karen, Samuel and Eleanor Chapman, James and Alicia Spurlin, Ethan and Emma Lambird.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Keith; and 13 siblings. Two brothers who were killed while serving in WWII.
Visitation is Wednesday March 27, 2019 form 5-7pm at Adamson. Funeral Service 10:30 am Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Adamson Life Celebration Home, burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 2PM.
