Obituary for Daniel Leroy Gesick

Daniel Leroy Gesick
Daniel Leroy Gesick, 83, of Milliken died at his home on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. He was born on January 30, 1935 on the Gesick homestead in Keota, CO to George and Marie (Rein) Gesick. He was confirmed at 15 at St. Paul’s Congregational Church and attended College High, both in Greeley, later earning his GED.

Daniel enlisted in the US Navy, serving from September 9, 1954 to August 14, 1958. He met Elaine Lynch on Valentine’s Day, 1956 at the Spud dock, when he stopped by to bring his mother a box of chocolates. Their first date was March 22 and they were married April 5, 1956 at the home of Rev. Stroh of St. Paul’s.

Over the years, he worked as a hired hand for various farmers, delivered milk for dairies, was a Foreman at Great Western Sugar for 23 years, followed by a short time at IBM and then at Rocky Flats for 13 years. He volunteered as a fireman in Milliken and served as Chief. After retirement, he worked for Tom and Helen Chesnut and Allen Winick helping with spring planting and fall harvest.

Daniel was a member of the Milliken Senior Center and the American Legion Post. He enjoyed time with family; fishing and camping, reading Louis L’Amour Westerns, John Wayne movies, farming, slow pitch softball, bowling, sitting on his front porch and watching the neighborhood, pets Jojo, Ashely and Tuffy, “cool cars” and gambling trips to Blackhawk.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine; daughter, Brenda (Rodney) Watson; sons, Gary (Tammy) Gesick, Loren (Kate) Gesick and Darrell (Esther) Gesick; siblings, Gladys Lutes, Barb (Hank) Ley, Richard (Rita) Gesick, Larry (Joyce) Gesick, Alvin (Linda) Gesick; grandchildren, Jesse, Holly, Brandy, Aspen, Amanda, Dylan and Cody; great-grandchildren, Destiny, Gracie, Rayanna, Korey, Zuriya, Noah, Kole as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Dorothy Winick and Janet Black.

Life Celebration services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Adamson with interment to follow in the Johnstown Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Milliken Senior Center following the burial.

Memorial gifts may be made to the “Milliken Senior Center” in care of Adamson, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634. Friends may leave condolences at adamsoncares.com.
