Gretta O. Christen, 83, of Roggen CO passed away December 24, 2017 at home with family by her side. Gretta was born July 24, 1934 in Pueblo, CO to Clarence Leon Anderson and Vera Irene Anderson. The Anderson family moved to South Washington Street in Denver, CO where she lived until she finished high school. She attended South High School and from there she attended business school. During her high school years she spent her summers as a life guard. She used her business degree to work for Adams County Courthouse and for a local bank.
Gretta married Joseph Thomas Christen February 2, 1952 and resided on the family homestead in Aurora, CO for 15 years. During this time they had two children, Cynthia (Cindy) Irene Baumgartner and Joseph (JoeLee) Leon Christen (married to Ann Christen). In July 1967 the family moved to Roggen, CO where her and Joe continued to raise registered shorthorn cattle on KA’BA Ranch. Gretta and Joe were married for 62 years at the time of Joe’s death in 2014.
Gretta was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and loved by all.
She is survived by her daughter Cindy Baumgartner of Keenesburg; son, Joseph (Ann) of Roggen; grandchildren Tammi Baumgartner of Brighton, CO, Tricia Baumgartner of Slidell, LA, Matthew Christen (Lizey) of Roggen, Adam Christen (Candy) of Roggen, Micheal Christen of Roggen. She was also a great grandmother to Caleb Baumgartner (son of Tricia), Brooklynn and Madelynn Christen (daughters of Matthew), Carlie and Cayla Christen (daughters of Adam).
Gretta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; one brother William (Bill) Anderson and his wife Ann.
A Life Celebration will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Christ Community Church, 11120 County Road 73, Roggen, CO 80652.
