Josephine Evelyn (Vigil) Chavez, 93, of Greeley, CO passed away peacefully at her home on November 27, 2017. She was born January 3, 1924 to Abenecio and Santana (Arguello) Vigil in Avondale, CO. She moved to Greeley later with her family. She married John T. Chavez on August 10, 1939 in Lovell, WY.
She was an avid homemaker who loved to make tortillas, clean and cook beans for her husband and family. Josephine loved her God and prayed to him and for her family daily. She enjoyed having her family together. She loved her nick naks, second hand stores and her collection of pictures. Josephine was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
Josephine is survived by her children, Marcus Chavez, Pete Chavez (Cindy), David Chavez (Jeanie), Rose Rodriguez (Julio), and Lisa Tovar (Javier) all of Greeley. She was known as “Golden Grams” to 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; seven great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Chavez; daughter, Josie Esparza; brothers, Modesto Vigil, Marshall Vigil, and John Vigil; sister, Jennie Chavez; three infant children; grandson, Norman Chavez; and granddaughter, Misty Chavez.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, November 30, 2017 followed by Recitation of The Rosary at 7 p.m., both at Adamson. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 1, 2017 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 1311 3rd Street, Greeley. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
