Obituary for Velma Rothe
Velma was born to Christ and Rachael Schmidt on a farm outside of Eaton. She spent most of her early years watching over her three brothers (Don, Dale and Jr.), milking cows and tending the field. She attended schools in Eaton, graduating in 1950. Velma entered Nursing after graduating from Beth-El School of Nursing in Colorado Springs.
A 41-year career at Weld County Hospital (later NCMC) included many specialties highlighted by setting up the Blood Mobile. In 2011 she was honored as the Health Advocate at the Celebrating Women Gala.
Her faith was a guiding light. She used her gift of service by visiting the elderly, taking communion to shut-ins and mission trips to Vietnam, Nicaragua and Mexico.
Velma married Jasper L. Wolf in 1954; they had three children, Kristy Munch, Cindy Wolf and Richard (Lois) Wolf. After his death in 1961, she married Alvin R. Rothe. Together they raised Alvin’s sons; Rick (Jenny), Jeff (Beth) and Kirk (Sheryl) Rothe to make a family of eight.
Caring for her family was the joy of her life.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren (with 2 more on the way) and a large circle of friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Christ and Rachael; two brothers, Don and Dale; and son, Rick.
