Obituary for Frances Gustafson
Frances Gustafson, 88, of Fort Lupton, CO passed away April 30, 2017 at Safe Harbor Assisted Living in Longmont, CO. She was born November 9, 1928 in Brighton, CO to George and Katie (Baumgartner) Apple.
Frances graduated from Platteville High School. She married Clifton “Jack” Wissler on November 22, 1948. After much illness, the love of her life died. Many years later, Frances found love again and married Reuben Gustafson on October 27, 1984.
Frances worked for the Kuner Canning Company and helped on their dairy farm during her marriage to Jack. She baked many wedding and birthday cakes that were shared with family and friends along with German grebbles, noodles, butterballs and krautburgers.
Frances loved her little dog Rubee dearly. They were constant companions for 11 years. She loved to hear birds singing in the trees and had quite the green thumb. Frances enjoyed sewing and made prom dresses for her granddaughters, sewed clothing for other family members, and enjoyed quilting. Her family recalls that she didn’t like to throw much of anything away that could be put into one of her sewing creations. Frances enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who called her FiFi.
Frances was also an active member of her community. Frances and her husband Jack were leaders o f the Golden West 4-H club for over 25 years. She was also a member of the Platteville United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, serving as president.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to her caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care and Safe Harbor Assisted Living. They all had a special place in her life and her heart.
Frances is survived by her children; Judy Svendson, Jacque (Don) Forchette, Jill (Darrel) Dever and Jaimie (Michelle) Wissler; by her grandchildren; Amanda and Zachariah Aschenbrenner, Jada (Bradd) Schafer, Malyka (Isaac) Korgan, Liberty (Craig) Bollig, Justice (Brian) Bobier, Darren (Lauren) Dever, Benjamin (Melissa) Dever, Jason, Jessica, Matthew and Nicole Wissler and Rebekah Arrington; great-grandchildren, Dawson, Olivia, Linley Dever and Otis Dever, Darian, Ryan and Kaitlin Aschenbrenner, Linkin, Cash and Knox Korgan, London and Bodhi Schafer, Marek and Landri Bollig, Jackson, Seve and Estelle Bobier, Annabelle Wissler, Madison and Sophia Ashcroft, Joseph and Christina Arrington and her brother, James Apple.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands Clifton “Jack” Wissler, and Reuben Gustafson, siblings Mervin (Pat) Apple, Gerald Apple and sister in-law Mary Apple, grandchildren Joseph Wissler, Adam Dever and Brian Dever, and Cherokee Rexwinkle.
Viewing will be held from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday May 3, 2017 at Adamson Chapel. Life Celebration Service 11:30 a.m. Thursday May 4, 2017 at the Platteville United Methodist Church, 316 Elizabeth Avenue. Interment will follow at Mizpah Cemetery in Platteville.
