THE GENERAL PRICE LIST
Comparing funeral and cremation prices can be very confusing to most consumers. For that reason the Federal Trade Commission mandates that all funeral and cremation providers must provide the consumer with a uniform General Price List (GPL). All GPL’s must contain the individual price of specified goods and services and packaged services. All funeral and cremation providers are required to give a consumer a copy of their GPL upon request and prior to discussing prices.
THE BEST VALUE
The GPL falls short, however, in helping the consumer determine the best value for their money. While the GPL will reveal that the cost for embalming at Funeral Home A is less than at Funeral Home B; most consumers are more interested in the total cost of the funeral or cremation. They want to know what to expect when it comes to the bottom line.
